So a quick opinion about the whole AI thing.
I saw some question somewhere on the Internet, like "are AI tools more an opportunity or a threat for your work & why do you feel that way?" and I was kinda stunned. Like... why? Why are we mixing art and AI images, as if they were of the same field? It's 2 different things aren't they.
I am personally not against AI, it's prertty cool in some way. But I am totally against of calling it art, calling people that type prompts AI artists - wait what?
If I go to McDonalds and order a burger, and they give me this burger, does it make me a cook? Even if I described perfectly how I want my mozarella and that tomato slice and I got kinda what I asked for, was I making this burger? No
Can I say I made a burger because I ordered it?
AI programs are not "tools", as you do not use them to work and create a piece of art, like you use Photoshop, Illustrator, Blender or Maya - same as giving your order to a McDonalds worker is not a "tool" for you to create a damn burger. You do not create anything with AI, you are not a part of the creative process - you're not drawing, nor blending, nor coding, you are simply giving a wordy description to the program that will produce a random design - even building a house in Sims 4 is more of a creative process or "art" because in Sims 4 you're actually moving objects and do things manually. AI tools generate images that are in no way a product of the "artist's" work (well, they are - a product of thousands of _actual_ artists work that were robbed of their paintings and style), and there is no chance these images can be called art. The only way I can see them being used in the art industry is for inspiration, like free references for the atmosphere and setting. I personally would feel nasty drawing over an AI image or using it in my painting and then calling the final piece "my art" - no, this wouldn't be my art, it would be "some shit I made using an AI image". Taking inspiration from AI though? Maybe, why not. I saw some pieces that look cool and I could take notes from them.
Point is, enjoy your burger, but you are no cook. Use the AI as much as you want but don't call yourself an artist - that's just dumb. You're an AI user, a customer at McDonalds. And it's totally fine. I can see myself using AI sometime, but I'll never call it me making art, lol.
Anyway, looking forward to see where it all goes.
